The Last Target

The last target-five nature reserves-has been set to be implemented by the Year 2000. The first reserve has been approved and is under development: Khor Kalba Mangrove Forest is the only place in the world where the White-collared Kingfisher breeds. It is an area of great beauty and amazing biodiversity, which will provide ample of opportunity for learning and enjoyment in the near future.

Other reserves are planned with special focus on the Arabian tahr, the Arabian leopard and the Arabian mountaingazelle, as well as a coastal wetland with birds, corals and seagrass beds.

A training course for national men to become wildlife rangers and tourist guides is in the planning stages, while also the business of eco-tourism is being considered as a vital element in the successful completion of the conservation program.
