Marine Hall

Coming back to the museum, there is one last stunning hall to see: the marine exhibit, dedicated to the marine life of both coasts.

Here, you walk on the floor of the sea, with water sounds in your ears and sunlight, filtered through waves, dappling hundreds of fishes 'swimming' overhead. These are exact fiberglass models of Gulf and Indian Ocean sea fish that were actually caught in Sharjah waters, including a four-metre baby whale shark. These creatures can be admired as if from the bottom of the sea.

Pride of place goes to the dugong or seacow, that rare mammal that lives on sea grass beds. An extensive seashell collection is displayed in attractive cases and several stunning underwater movies can be viewed while seated on the enormous bolts of the underwater pillar of an oil rig.
