Children's Farm

The Children's Farm (petting zoo) was opened in April 1996. The lobby of this exhibit is made to look like the barnyard of a desert farm, with beautiful paintings and sweet smelling hat on the floor, giving the impression of being outside.

A kitchen, decorated with copies of rock carvings of domestic and wild animals, serves fresh milk and home made cheese and yogurt. Items of interest are the demonstration beehive, with bees flying in and out through a transparent tube and an incubation table, where the miracle of birth can be watched as eggs hatch.

Outside, there are pens for camels, Arabian horses, donkeys, sheep, goats and milkcows, as well as area for all kinds of poultry. All animals can be fed with food by the farmhands. The animals are tame and well behaved in general, but care must be taken not to tease or hurt them. At the back of the area, a covered circular walkway features pony-rides.

Zebus and fine-tailed pigeons shelter in the shade of the palmfrond roof. The Children's Farm gives the whole family a chance to get acquainted with the animals that provide food and clothing and are important parts of the environment in which we live.

For children growing up in city apartments, the Children's Farm provides an opportunity to learn that milk does not grow in bottles and eggs are more than just food. At the same time, they can learn that animals are fun to be with if you treat them gently and watch their daily activities.
